Elden Ring Tarnished Edition Arrives on Switch 2 August 28 — Two New Classes and Torrent Skins for Every Platform
FromSoftware's landmark action RPG arrives on Nintendo Switch 2 on August 28 as Elden Ring Tarnished Edition — a $79.99 package that bundles the base game with the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion plus a set of new content that has never appeared on any platform before. And this time, existing players on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC don't get left behind: the new content releases simultaneously as a separate "Tarnished Pack" DLC on August 28.
Two New Starting Classes
The headline additions are the Heavy Knight and Idus Knight — the first new starting classes in Elden Ring's history.
The Heavy Knight is built for players who want to open with maximum physical endurance. It starts at Level 10 with 14 Vigor, 17 Endurance, and 15 Strength — a durable, forward-pushing build wrapped in bulky steel plate and carrying an oversized scimitar. It leans into the tanky playstyle that many players only reach after dozens of hours of stat respeccing.
The Idus Knight goes the other direction: a lightweight dexterity class that prioritizes speed and agility over raw resilience. Players who wanted to open a new playthrough with a swift, evasion-focused build instead of grinding toward it now have a direct route in.
Both classes come with dedicated starting equipment and armor sets tuned to their respective playstyle archetypes.
Torrent Customization — Finally
Arguably the most emotionally resonant feature of the Tarnished Edition is Torrent skin support. Players have asked for Torrent customization since 2022, and three cosmetic options are now confirmed — alternate appearances for the spectral steed that have no gameplay impact but let players personalize what is essentially the series' most beloved mount. It is a small thing that will feel like a big deal to anyone with 200+ hours in the game.
Switch 2 Performance and the Full Package
The Switch 2 version carries the complete base game plus Shadow of the Erdtree, four new armor sets, the new starting classes, and the Torrent skins, all at $79.99. Pre-ordering unlocks exclusive in-game gestures (The Ring and Ring of Miquella) that can also be earned through regular play.
FromSoftware has not published detailed technical specs for the Switch 2 port, but given the platform's hardware profile the expectation is a 1080p handheld / upscaled docked experience similar to how other demanding titles have landed on the hybrid console. A gameplay showcase trailer released ahead of launch gives the first real look at how the title runs in portable mode.
What This Means for Existing Players
The simultaneous Tarnished Pack DLC release is the smarter story here. FromSoftware is not holding the new content hostage on Switch 2; PC, PS5, and Xbox players can buy in immediately on August 28. This removes the platform envy dynamic that often sours console-exclusive content drops and keeps the community on the same page.
For anyone who has never touched Elden Ring, the Switch 2 edition is the most complete entry point the game has ever had. For veterans who already own the base game and Shadow of the Erdtree, the Tarnished Pack gives two solid reasons — new class builds and that long-awaited Torrent wardrobe — to return to the Lands Between one more time.
