Final Fantasy VII Revelation Has a Date: April 8, 2027, With Eight Playable Characters and the Highwind
Square Enix confirmed at Sony's September 3 State of Play that Final Fantasy VII Revelation, the third and final entry in the FFVII Remake trilogy, will release on April 8, 2027. The game will be available simultaneously on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam, the Epic Games Store, and the Microsoft Store.
The showcase delivered roughly ten minutes of new gameplay. The footage introduced world traversal via the Highwind — the iconic airship from the original 1997 game — alongside chocobos and a new grapple gun mechanic for navigating terrain. The planet map shows a genuinely expanded open world compared to Rebirth.
Eight Playable Characters Confirmed
Square Enix confirmed all eight playable characters: Cloud, Barret, Tifa, Yuffie, Red XIII, Cait Sith, Vincent, and Cid. The party roster is now complete, accounting for every core member of AVALANCHE. Vincent Valentine and Cid Highwind, who were absent from Remake and appeared briefly in Rebirth, are now full playable characters with their own skill trees and combat roles.
Combat and Story
The FITS (Freely Integrated Team Synergy) combat system carries over from Rebirth and expands it with new character-pairing synergies. The State of Play footage showed cross-character team-up attacks and elemental combinations that unlock at higher affinity levels.
Square Enix framed Revelation as "the epic finale" — concluding a storyline that began in 2020 with Final Fantasy VII Remake and continued through Rebirth in 2024. The trilogy has drawn consistent attention for departing meaningfully from the original game's script, and Revelation is expected to bring that divergence to its conclusion. The game's title — a deliberate shift from "Rebirth" to "Revelation" — already signals that answers are coming.
Collector's Edition and Pre-Orders
Alongside the official Square Enix announcement, a Collector's Edition was revealed featuring an Aerith Gainsborough statue, a hardcover artbook, an Aggressor Bangle replica, and a cloth world map of the Planet. Pre-orders went live the same day across all platforms.
A Seven-Month Runway
With April 8 now confirmed, Revelation has a seven-month runway from announcement to launch — shorter than the gap between Remake and Rebirth, and a signal that the project is deep into its final polish phase. The simultaneous multi-platform release, unlike Rebirth's PS5 exclusivity window, also suggests Square Enix is not planning a staggered rollout this time around.
For fans who have been following the trilogy since 2020, April 8, 2027 is now the date on the calendar. The State of Play footage looked polished, the party is complete, and the Highwind is finally in the air.
