IllFonic has built a career on asymmetrical horror games — Friday the 13th, Predator: Hunting Grounds, Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed. Each time, the formula is roughly the same: one overpowered movie monster versus a team of humans trying to survive long enough to escape. With Halloween: The Game, released September 8, 2026, they finally have their best IP yet — and reviews suggest they've made the most of it.

The Setup

The core multiplayer is 1v4: one player controls Michael Myers, four play as Haddonfield civilians. As Myers, you stalk through Haddonfield, use abilities like Shape Jump to cross the map without warning, and methodically pick off civilians. The survivors must warn residents, scavenge weapons, guide NPCs to safety, and call the police before time runs out — classic horror movie logic translated cleanly into game mechanics.

Alongside the multiplayer mode, the game includes a five-chapter single-player story campaign focused on Michael himself. Reviewers noted it adds real replay value on its own rather than feeling like an afterthought bolted onto a multiplayer title.

John Carpenter's Fingerprints

The director of the original 1978 film served as executive producer and was closely involved in the game's creative direction. Longtime franchise producer Malek Akkad also participated in development — giving the project direct lineage from the source material rather than the arm's-length licensed feel that sinks a lot of film-to-game adaptations.

What Critics Say

Reviews landed in generally positive territory with caveats. GameSpot praised how the game carves its own path within the asymmetrical horror genre. Bloody Disgusting called playing as Myers "an intoxicating power trip," while flagging an uneven overall experience. Technical issues were the most common complaint — though IllFonic has been patching steadily since launch.
