Palworld 1.0 Is Live: Sky Islands, Wing Packs, and a Proper Ending After 18 Months of Early Access
After eighteen months of early access, Palworld officially launched its version 1.0 on July 10, 2026 — landing simultaneously on PC (Steam and Microsoft Store), Mac App Store, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. Players who already purchased during early access receive the full update at no additional cost.
The release is substantial. This is not a version bump with a handful of bug fixes; Pocketpair has overhauled nearly every system in the game while adding a staggering amount of new content.
New Lands to Explore
The map expands vertically with the addition of Sky Islands, floating landmasses above the Palpagos archipelago that introduce new environments, fresh Pals, and aerial traversal challenges. The World Tree becomes the new endgame zone — a brutally difficult high-level area gated behind substantial progression, designed to give veteran players somewhere meaningful to push toward.
The Wing Pack Changes Everything
One of the most immediately noticeable changes is the Wing Pack, a gear item that lets your character glide and fly independently — without mounting a Pal. Critically, it occupies an equipment slot rather than a party slot, meaning you can soar through the Sky Islands while still fielding a full five-Pal combat team. Players have already confirmed it enables aerial combat with certain weapons, opening up new battle dynamics that weren't possible before.
40+ New Pals and Genetic Recombination
The Paldeck has grown by over 40 entries, with standouts including the Sky Dragon, Sword Eel, Tree Guardian, and Giant Whale. Beyond quantity, the breeding system has been deepened significantly: Genetic Recombination allows players to combine genes extracted from Legendary Pals, producing offspring with unique traits that can meaningfully alter how they fight or work at base.
Boss Overhauls and Sanctuary Redesigns
Existing Tower Bosses have been reworked with new attack patterns and multi-phase mechanics — if you memorized their rotations during early access, expect to relearn them. Entirely new bosses have also been introduced. Wildlife Sanctuaries, which previously felt like repetitive map tiles, have been redesigned with distinct terrain, rare Pals, and dedicated boss encounters for each location.
Building Gets Wet
Long-requested water-based building is finally in. New foundation types and furniture designed specifically for water let players construct bases on lakes and coastal areas without fighting the terrain system. New structure sets, decorations, and building pieces round out the construction update.
A Story Worth Following
The 1.0 release also adds structured story missions that tie the game's broader narrative together. For players who played through early access treating the world as a pure sandbox, there's now a more coherent throughline connecting the islands and their lore.
Palworld launched in January 2024 to extraordinary numbers — over 25 million copies sold in its first month. Whether 1.0 brings back lapsed players at the same scale remains to be seen, but the scope of these changes gives them plenty of reasons to return.
