World of Warcraft: Forever Is Live — Blizzard's Third Permanent Take on Azeroth Just Launched

On November 4, 2026, Blizzard launched World of Warcraft: Forever — a third permanent flavor of WoW that sits alongside the existing Modern WoW and WoW Classic versions. It is, in Blizzard's own framing, the definitive version of original Azeroth — not a temporary Classic season, but a permanent home for players who want the classic 1–60 experience with meaningful new content layered on top.

What WoW: Forever actually is

It is not a full graphical remake, and it is not a subscription-separate product. Forever is included in any active WoW subscription or game time — no additional purchase required.

The content added on top of the classic 1–60 framework is substantial:

  • Skyborne: a new playable race with unique class combinations not available to other races.
  • Three new zones woven into the original Azeroth map.
  • Over 1,000 new quests, including new breadcrumb quest chains and endgame storylines.
  • Nine new dungeons and two new raids.
  • A new PvP battleground.
  • New race-class combinations for existing Classic races.

The goal, as Blizzard described it at BlizzCon 2026, is to give the original world a reason to remain relevant long-term — something Classic Era servers never quite achieved, since they were static by design.

Launch went smoothly

Blizzard ran a simultaneous global launch, with US Pacific going live at 3 p.m. on November 4 and Central European servers unlocking at midnight on November 5. Queue times were long in the first hours — as is tradition — but no major technical incidents were reported.

What's coming next

The Forever roadmap is already defined:

  • December 9, 2026: Raids unlock.
  • Winter 2026/27: Hardcore servers arrive, letting players opt into permadeath mode on the Forever ruleset.
  • Spring 2027: Two additional raids, two new dungeons, and a full PvP season refresh.

Is it worth trying?

If you've drifted away from WoW but still have nostalgia for vanilla Azeroth, Forever is a compelling reason to resubscribe. The original 1–60 progression is intact — including the pacing, difficulty, and social dynamics that made Classic feel different from retail — but there's enough new content that you won't be running the same fifteen-year-old quests on your third character. The Skyborne race alone will draw a large chunk of returning players just to explore the new starting experience.

Modern WoW and Classic Era remain unchanged. Forever is additive, not a replacement.
