EA SPORTS FC 27 launches worldwide today, September 25, 2026, on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2. It's the third entry in the FIFA-successor franchise, and it arrives with the most ambitious scope changes yet — including an entirely new open-world social mode and a free-to-play lite version to lower the barrier to entry.
The Grounds: football's open world
The headline addition is The Grounds, a new open-world district that expands the Clubs experience into something closer to a persistent social playground. Three distinct districts, each inspired by a different football culture, host casual pickup matches and competitive play. Players develop an athlete avatar with mentorship mechanics involving cover stars Kylian Mbappé and Chloe Kelly. It's EA's clearest attempt yet to pull football fans into a persistent, living game space rather than a menu of discrete match types.
Career Mode gets a real transfer market
The Career Mode transfer system has been rebuilt from scratch. Player valuations now shift dynamically based on club resources, potential, current rating, and form. Competitive bidding between clubs creates more realistic recruitment races, and enhanced negotiation mechanics give agents and counteroffers more weight. Gameplay and FUT changes
On the pitch, the headline gameplay changes include dynamic corner kicks, improved attacking awareness, and rebalanced AI defending — all driven by community feedback gathered after FC 26. Football Ultimate Team introduces the FUT Gallery, a curation system for assembling and grading a player item collection that unlocks escalating rewards. The game ships with 21,000+ players across 800+ clubs, 130+ stadiums, and 35+ leagues.
FC 27 Lite: free to download
Also launching today is FC 27 Lite, a free download on all console and PC storefronts. It gives non-buyers access to Kick-Off mode with a limited club selection. It's not a full demo — there's no story or FUT — but it's the first time EA has shipped a permanent free tier for the franchise, and it lowers the trial cost to zero.
Editions and pricing
The Ultimate Plus Edition includes seven-day early access (which began September 18), 10,000 FC Points spread over five months, and Premium Passes for five seasons. EA Play members received a 10-hour trial ahead of today's launch. Standard edition pricing follows regional platform norms.
