Tonight, Cologne plays host to the gaming world's most-watched curtain-raiser. Gamescom Opening Night Live 2026 — hosted by Geoff Keighley — kicks off today, August 25, at 11 AM PT / 2 PM ET, and the confirmed lineup is genuinely stacked.
What to Expect
Eight major titles have been officially confirmed for the two-hour stream. Confirmed showings include The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past (CD Projekt RED's surprise DLC revival), Final Fantasy VII Revelation, Gears of War: E-Day, Metro 2039, Monster Hunter: Outlanders, Path of Exile 2, Valor Mortis, and Silent Hill: Townfall.
That's a lot of heavy hitters for a Tuesday livestream. Several of these — E-Day in particular — have been whispered about for years and are finally expected to show real gameplay.
Star Wars Zero Company Launches Wednesday
Star Wars Zero Company skips tonight's show because it doesn't need to — it releases August 27, right in the middle of Gamescom week. Respawn Entertainment's tactical RPG set between Episodes III and IV has been building buzz since its original reveal, and the timing means reviews and player reactions will land while the rest of the industry is already gathered in Cologne.
The GTA 6 Complication
Rockstar is complicating things this year. An Extended Look at GTA 6 is premiering on Netflix on August 27, the same day Zero Company drops and smack in the middle of Gamescom. It's a bold scheduling decision — or possibly a calculated one. Either way, it fractures attention at the exact moment the industry is trying to hold it together.
Surprise Reveals Are the Real Story
Opening Night Live has a strong track record of saving its best moments for reveals that never appear on any pre-show list. The eight confirmed titles above are almost certainly a floor, not a ceiling. Industry watchers are speculating about Exodus (the new RPG from former BioWare and Obsidian veterans), and Ananta and other unannounced titles are rumored to appear.
The full Gamescom schedule runs August 25–30, with public days, Xbox and PlayStation showcases, and developer showcases filling out the rest of the week. If tonight's Opening Night Live delivers on its lineup — and history suggests it usually does — this year's Gamescom has a strong opening act.
The stream is live on YouTube, Twitch, and the official Gamescom channels.
