Google's long-rumored Googlebook line is now official — and shipping today. On October 4, 2026, the first Googlebooks went on sale in the US, with availability expanding to Canada, the UK, Ireland, France, Germany, and Australia on October 5.
Five manufacturing partners anchor the launch: Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, and Lenovo. Pricing starts at $899 for the Acer Googlebook 14, the most affordable entry in the range. Every Googlebook includes 12 months of Google AI Pro — 5TB of cloud storage and expanded Gemini usage limits — plus 3 months of YouTube Premium and Adobe Photoshop access.
What Is a Googlebook?
Googlebook sits at the intersection of Android and ChromeOS. Google built the platform on Android's technology stack and layered in desktop foundations borrowed from ChromeOS — the result is a laptop that runs Android apps natively while adding the window management, keyboard and trackpad ergonomics, and multitasking model expected from a traditional laptop.
Every unit ships with an NPU rated above 45 TOPS for on-device AI workloads, a touchscreen (up to 2.8K OLED on premium configurations), a haptic glass trackpad, and a backlit keyboard. Materials span aluminum, magnesium alloy, and carbon fiber depending on the model. Battery life is rated up to 14 hours.
Gemini Is Front and Center
The flagship software feature is called Magic Pointer: wiggling the cursor summons Gemini at any moment, no keyboard shortcut required. A second feature, Continue On, lets users resume tasks they started on an Android phone directly on the laptop's taskbar — creating a seamless handoff between the two devices.
The AI Pro subscription bundled with each purchase also unlocks higher Gemini usage limits, positioning the laptop as a device that genuinely gets more useful the more you rely on Google's AI assistant.
Who Is This For?
Googlebook is aimed squarely at Android phone owners who want a laptop that feels like a natural extension of their mobile life rather than a separate ecosystem to manage. If you're already deep in Google's app stack — Drive, Photos, Messages, Gemini — the pitch is coherent: one account, one assistant, one continuous experience across devices.
The $899 floor is competitive with mid-range Windows laptops, and all five OEM partners are bringing their own design and pricing configurations to the lineup, so there should be options across the mid-to-premium range by the holiday season.
