Toby Fox confirmed during a Nintendo Direct on June 9 that Deltarune Chapter 5 will release on June 24, 2026 at 11:00 AM EDT. It's arriving on PC, PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, and Switch 2 — and it's a free update for anyone who already owns the game.
For context: Deltarune is the spiritual successor to Undertale, Fox's landmark 2015 indie RPG. Chapters 1 and 2 were released for free in 2018 and 2021. Chapters 3 and 4 followed as a paid bundle. Chapter 5 continues the story of Kris, Susie, and Ralsei in a format that fans of the series will recognize immediately — turn-based battles with a strong emphasis on not fighting, an eclectic cast of characters, and storytelling that rewards patience.
Fox has said almost nothing about what happens in Chapter 5. That's deliberate. He held back nearly all plot and gameplay details to preserve the experience for players going in fresh. Given how thoroughly Undertale's best moments depended on not being spoiled, the restraint is earned and expected.
The bigger news might be what Fox shared about Chapter 6. He noted it's "easier to make than the others" and that development is moving quickly enough that the team might start work on Chapter 7 before 2027. For a series where chapter gaps have stretched to years, this is a meaningful signal. The end of Deltarune — however many chapters that turns out to be — suddenly feels less distant than it did six months ago.
If you've been waiting to start the series, June 24 is a reasonable moment to jump in. Chapters 1 and 2 are free to download on PC, and the full package gives you enough to know whether you want to be there for what comes next.
